Powell's Bio on NFL.com
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Harding defensive end Ty Powell participated in the National Football League Combine on Sunday and Monday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Personnel from all 32 NFL teams were on hand to evaluate the nation's top college football players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft.
Powell, a native of Marina, Calif., was a D2football.com 2nd Team All-America honoree in 2012 after leading the Bisons to a 9-2 record and its first NCAA Division II playoff appearance. Powell led Harding with 12.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks and blocked a school-record four kicks.
Powell tested in four drills on Sunday and Monday. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.64 seconds, the seventh-fastest time in his defensive lineman position group. Powell did 28 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press, had the second-best vertical leap of all defensive linemen (37 inches), and broad jumped 10 feet, 2 inches.
Powell was given a grade of 68 by NFL talent evaluators, which indicates that he could be drafted between the fourth and seventh rounds of the NFL Draft. Players not selected in the seven-round draft become free agents.
Powell, measured at 6-2 and 249 pounds, would be the first Harding player drafted since Bruce Baldwin was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round of the 1983 draft. The 2013 NFL Draft will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City from Apr. 25-27.
