SEARCY – Harding women's tennis dropped its first match of the spring Tuesday, falling 9-0 to Northeastern State at the Harding Tennis Courts.
Harding (1-2) got off to a strong start at No. 1 doubles, where junior Benyapa Phumtip and freshman Ali Rowden won the first three games and later held a 5-1 lead. Northeastern State's Jeanne Mallem and Houda Bellamine then won seven of the next eight games and took the match 8-6. It was the first loss in three matches this season for Phumtip and Rowden.
Northeastern State (1-0) won both of the other doubles matches by 8-1 margins.
Harding dropped each of the doubles matches in straight sets.
The Lady Bisons play again Thursday at Hendrix in Conway, Ark. The match starts at 1 p.m.
