HU Baseball Travels to #1 Delta State on Wednesday

Victor Guerra has hits in his last six games and is hitting .500 during the stretch.

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Harding baseball team takes on Delta State, the No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division II, for the second time this season Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Boo Ferriss Field.

Harding (14-7) recorded its most impressive win of the season when the teams met the first time at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy on Feb. 27. The Bisons scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and defeated the Statesmen 12-2, snapping Delta State's 11-game winning streak to open the season. Kyle Atkins, James Anderson, and Gabe Fyock each had two hits in the game.

Harding freshman Collin Campbell, who could make the start again for the Bisons on Wednesday, allowed only one earned run on five hits in five innings with five strikeouts in the Bisons' first game against Delta State.

The Statesmen (20-4) fell out of the top spot with the lost to Harding but have moved back atop the Collegiate Baseball Poll after winning nine of their last 11 games. Delta State plays at Division I foe Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday before hosting Harding on Wednesday.

Junior shortstop Victor Guerra has been Harding's hottest hitter of late. He enters the Delta State game with a team-best six-game hitting streak. During those six games, Guerra is 10-for-20 (.500) with eight runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Harding will be playing against Delta State in Cleveland for the first time since the 2009 season. The Bisons won one of three games in a Gulf South Conference series against the 27th-ranked Statesmen, taking game two 12-1.
