HU Baseball Falls in Series Finale at Southeastern Oklahoma

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma scored five runs in the third and five more in the eighth and defeated Harding 11-4 on Sunday in Great American Conference play at the Ballpark in Durant. The Savage Storm won two of the three games in the series.

Harding fell to 9-4 overall and 3-3 in the GAC. Southeastern improved to 9-7 overall and 4-5 in conference.

With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third, Southeastern's Travis Caraway hit the second grand slam of the series for the Savage Storm. Southeastern tacked on another run in the inning and led 6-1.

Harding starting pitcher Cameron Walker (0-1) gave way to reliever Zac Stewart in the fourth. Stewart pitched three scoreless innings and struck out two.

The Bisons closed the gap on the Savage Storm in the fifth. Senior Billy Ninemire drove in his second run of the game and 10th of the season with a single to left field. Junior Erin McCarver followed with a two-run double that made the score 6-4.

Harding got no closer, and Southeastern used three hits, a walk, a hit batter and a Bison error to score five more stretch the lead to 11-4.

David Cagle started for Southeastern and earned the win, going five innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits. Walker allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits over three innings in suffering the loss.

Harding had eight hits in the game. Ninemire was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Caraway was 3-for-5 with two runs and six RBI for Southeastern.

Harding returns to action Wednesday with a non-conference game against Arkansas-Fort Smith in Searcy. The game begins at Jerry Moore Field at 4 p.m.
