BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Harding women's tennis team had its season end Friday in the semifinals of the Great American Conference Tournament. The Lady Bisons defeated Henderson State 5-0 in the quarterfinals before falling 5-3 to East Central in the semifinals.
Harding swept through the doubles against Henderson State and earned singles wins from Benyapa Phumtip at No. 1 and Kaleigh Wagner at No. 6.
Harding won two of the three doubles matches against No. 2 seed East Central. Phumtip and Ali Rowden won 8-2 at No. 1, and Katie Huff and Maria Moreno pulled out a 9-7 victory at No. 3.
The Lady Bisons needed three singles victories to move to the finals, but only won one. Wagner won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
Harding concluded its season with a 13-9 record. It was the final match for Harding head coach David Elliott, who has been the coach of the Lady Bisons since 1991. Chelsea Lanier, Harding's lone senior, finished her career with records of 53-26 in singles and 52-30 in doubles.
