SEARCY – Harding baseball swept a doubleheader from NAIA Central Baptist on Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field. The Bisons won the first game 4-3 and defeated the Mustangs 7-3 in game two.
Harding (21-15) will return to Great American Conference play Friday in the first game of a three-game series against Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Bisons came from behind to win the opener. Trailing 3-1 in the sixth, Harding senior Billy Ninemire led off the inning with a double and moved to third on junior Jeremy Bohnett's fly out to right field. Junior Matt Calhoun plated Ninemire with another double to cut the Mustangs' lead to one. With two out, junior Victor Guerra singled to center to score pinch runner John Chapman with the tying run.
In the seventh, junior Trent Wooldridge pinch hit and walked to lead off the inning. He stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Senior Kyle Atkins slapped a slow roller to third, and Wooldridge scored the winning run.
Junior Tyler Stanford (1-1) pitched the last two innings for Harding and earned the win. Central Baptist starter Deonta Howard (2-1) suffered the loss.
Harding also trailed in the second game but not for long. Central Baptist (18-18) scored three runs on three extra-base hits in the top of the first off Bison starter Zac Stewart, but Harding answered with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first. Bohnett, Calhoun, Guerra and James Anderson each had RBI in the inning.
Harding tacked on another run in the second on an RBI single by Wooldridge and scored twice in the fifth on an RBI single by Ninemire and a sacrifice fly from Calhoun.
Wooldridge and Ninemire both had two hits.
Sophomore Jay McCreary (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win for the Bisons. Mustang starter Ezra Wiley (0-1) lasted only one inning and suffered the loss.
