Baseball Bisons Bash Tech to Advance at GAC Tournament

ENID, Okla. – Kyle Atkins and Gabe Fyock had four hits each and Jeremy Bohnett hit a three-run home run to lead Harding to a 14-8 victory over Arkansas Tech on Monday at the Great American Conference Tournament.

Harding (29-21) advances to meet Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday at 12 p.m. and is one of only three teams remaining in the tournament. Arkansas Tech (32-21) was eliminated with the loss.

Harding scored multiple runs in an inning four times, including four-run innings in the third and fifth and a three-run inning in the eighth.

Atkins was 4-for-6 with three runs. It was his second four-hit game of the season. Fyock continued his hot hitting in the GAC Tournament, going 4-for-5 with two runs and a career-high four RBI. He is now 7-for-11 in the tournament.

Bohnett hit his second home run of the season in the fifth inning and went 3-for-6 with two runs and four RBI. Trent Wooldridge also had three hits for the Bisons, who had 19 as a team.

Freshman Collin Campbell started for Harding and worked two innings. He allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits before he was replaced by Cameron Walker (4-4). Walker, pitching for the second straight day, battled through 3 2/3 innings and yielded five hits and four earned runs and picked up the win.

With two outs in the sixth, Harding turned the game over to closer Josh Spears, who allowed only two hits and no earned runs over the final 3 1/3 innings to earn his seventh save.

Arkansas Tech used six different pitchers with five of them giving up two earned runs or more. Ethan Crocker (0-2) took the loss.

The Wonder Boys had 12 hits, three by Cole Fergus. Thomas Biocic and Drew Stanton both had three RBI.

Harding has now eliminated both Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma from the tournament. The Bisons will need two wins Tuesday to capture the tournament championship.
