SEARCY – Harding junior Jacob Stevens scored the game-tying goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation and the Bisons tied Lyon College 2-2 in double overtime on a muggy Tuesday night in non-conference play at the Stevens Soccer Complex.

With the tie, Harding moves to 0-1-1 on the season and will continue its search for its first victory Saturday at home against Texas Wesleyan. The game begins at 1 p.m.

Harding took an early lead on freshman Dylan Sherrill's first collegiate goal in the 22nd minute. Sophomore Christopher Walker sent a long, cross-field pass from the left sideline to Sherrill at the right edge of the 18-yard box. Sherrill controlled the ball and shot it past Lyon goalkeeper Rob Brown to the far post.

The Bisons held the 1-0 advantage at halftime, but Lyon (2-1-2) scored two goals less than nine minutes apart early in the second half to take the lead. Manny Leon scored from 25 yards out to tie the game in the 50th minute, and Eleazer Palma put the Scots ahead on a header in the 58th minute.

Then in the 87th minute, Harding's Josiah Ireland was fouled on the left side just outside the 18-yard box. Ireland was shaken up on the play and came out of the game. Stevens came in, took the free kick, and netted his first goal of the season and the third of his career.

Brown made one save on a Harding shot in the first overtime, and Harding goalkeeper Seth Peterson made two saves in the second overtime. Peterson had six saves in the game.

It was the first tie in 10 meetings between the teams. Lyon had won the three previous meetings, each of them a shutout. Harding's last five games that have gone into overtime have ended in ties. The Bisons' last victory in overtime was a 1-0 triumph over Delta State in 2011.
