SEARCY – Harding junior Ian Park scored on a header eight minutes into overtime to give the Bisons a 4-3 victory over Southern Nazarene on Thursday in MIAA action at the Stevens Soccer Complex.

The victory moved Harding to 2-1-2 on the season and 1-0-0 in MIAA play. The Bisons play their second of three consecutive home conference games Saturday at 1 p.m. against Fort Hays State.

Park's goal gave the Bisons consecutive victories for the first time since defeating Williams Baptist and Delta State in 2011, and the Danville, Ill., native scored the game-winner in both victories. He had a two-goal game, including the game-winner, in Harding's 3-1 win at Ouachita Baptist last Tuesday.

The teams combined to score three first half goals in the span of just over seven minutes. Harding freshman Jackson Buchanan scored his second of the season in the 23rd minute after recovering a failed clearance and driving a low shot inside the far post.

Southern Nazarene (1-5-0, 0-2-0) tied it at 1-1 in the 26th minute with their only shot on goal in the first half. Blake Rodgers took a feed from Edgar Pineda and scored on a header.

Harding retook the lead 2-1 just over four minutes later on Ryan Wilhelm's second goal of the season. Park had the assist. The goal was the 12th of Wilhelm's career, tying him with Colby Wilson (2005-08) for ninth all-time at Harding.

The Bisons took the 2-1 lead into halftime and held it until Pineda scored his fourth of the season on an assist from Rodgers in the 55th minute.

An own goal by Southern Nazarene defender Javier Hernandez in the 68th minute put the Bisons back on top. Harding's Barry Foster sent in a cross, but Hernandez's attempt to clear found the Crimson Storm goal.

The combination of Rodgers and Pineda struck again in the 76th minute to tie the game for the third time. Rodgers scored his third of the season with Pineda on the assist, sending the game to overtime.

Just under eight minutes into overtime, Harding's Christopher Walker recovered a loose ball to the right of the 18-yard box and sent in a perfect cross that Park headed home for the victory.

It was the first time in Harding's last seven overtime games that the Bisons came away with a victory. The previous six, including two this season, all ended in ties.

Harding had 28 shots in the game, the 13th-most in a game in program history and the most in two seasons in the MIAA. Southern Nazarene, playing its fifth straight road game, had only 11 shots but scored on all three of its shots on goal.

The Bisons also held a 16-2 advantage on corner kicks.
