SEARCY - Harding women's tennis got its season off to a strong start with a 9-0 victory over Rhodes on Friday at the Harding Tennis Courts.
Harding is 1-0 and plays again Monday at 11 a.m. against Christian Brothers. Rhodes, a member of the NCAA Division III Southern Athletics Association, fell to 0-1.
Harding won all three doubles matches by identical 8-2 scores. The victories came from
Piper Huey and
Ali Bishop (No. 1),
Gabriella Alves and
Arielle Butler (No. 2), and
Katie Huff and
Brittany Smyser (No. 3).
Harding won five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Bishop fell behind after dropping the first set 7-6, but rallied to win the last two sets 6-1 and 10-7. Winning in straight sets were Huey (No. 1), Alves (No. 3), Butler (No. 4), Smyser (No. 5), and
Emily Faulkner (No. 6).
