SEARCY – Harding women's tennis closed out the fall season a 9-0 victory over Christian Brothers on Monday at the Harding Tennis Courts.
Harding also defeated Rhodes 9-0 last Friday and finished the fall 2-0. Christian Brothers dropped to 0-1.
Christian Brothers arrived at the match with only four eligible players and forfeited at No. 5 and No. 6 singles and at No. 3 doubles.
Leading 3-0, Harding needed only two victories in doubles to clinch the match. The Lady Bisons picked up the first point at No. 1 doubles where Piper Huey and Ali Bishop teamed to defeat Carley Lane and Rebecca Johnston 8-0. Huey and Bishop won six of their eight fall matches as a team.
The match-clinching point came at No. 2 doubles where Harding's Katie Huff and Emily Faulkner downed Lauren Woog and Tyler Napier 8-2. The match was the first for Huff and Faulkner as teammates.
Harding took three of the four singles matches in straight sets. Freshman Gabriella Alves blanked Lane 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 for her fourth fall singles victory. Fellow freshmen Brittany Smyser and Kellie Laviolette also added straight-sets victories. Smyser defeated Johnston 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, and Laviolette won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4.
The last match of the contest was at No. 2 singles, where Harding's Arielle Butler outlasted Woog 2-6, 7-6, 10-8.
