Baseball Bisons Host Thursday Doubleheader with Northeastern State

Harding Notes

·         Harding will be playing its second doubleheader of the season on Thursday at noon against MIAA and Central Region foe Northeastern State.

·         The Bisons won their first two games of the season with a pair of one-run victories Sunday against NAIA opponent Lyon College. Harding won the opener 1-0 on a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning by senior Matt Calhoun. Senior Cameron Walker started the game and struck out 10 in seven innings in a no-decision. The Bisons won game two 3-2.

·         Calhoun and Zac Stewart led Harding with two hits each in the Lyon doubleheader. Noah Chandler had two RBI.

·         Harding's pitchers struck out 17 and allowed only 12 hits and five walks in 16 innings against Lyon.

·         Sophomore Andrew Fiddler (0-0, 0.00) and senior Bronson Smith (1-0, 0.00) are scheduled to start on the mound for Harding. Fiddler is 3-3 with a 4.18 ERA in his career and will be making his 14th appearance and second start. Smith

·         Harding was selected sixth in the 11-team Great American Conference in the preseason coaches' poll. Northeastern State, a member of the MIAA, is located in Tahlequah, Okla. The RiverHawks were selected eighth of 14 teams in the MIAA preseason poll.

·         Northeastern State will be playing its first games of the 2014 season Thursday. Last season the RiverHawks were 28-23 overall, including 25-20 in MIAA play. NSU was 11-12 in road games last season.

·         Northeastern State's Cody Robinson, a senior outfielder from Sugar Land, Texas, was named 2nd Team Preseason All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association. Robinson hit 16 home runs in 2013.
