Harding Baseball Hosts Truman State for Three-Game Series

Harding Notes

·         Harding and Truman State will play a three-game series Saturday and Sunday at Jerry Moore Field. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon and a single, nine-inning game Sunday at 1 p.m.

·         Harding is 2-2 on the season with all four games at home. The Bisons are coming off a pair of losses to Northeastern State on Thursday. Harding fell 5-0 in game one and 3-2 in game two.

·         Harding's leading hitter through the first four games is senior Matt Calhoun. He is hitting .250 (3-for-12) with a home run and an RBI. Noah Chandler and Chris Hardey are tied for the team lead with two RBI.

·         Harding's pitching staff has struck out 30 hitters in 30 innings, allowing only 26 hits and seven walks. Opponents are hitting only .250 off Harding pitchers.

·         The Bisons will send senior Cameron Walker (0-0, 0.00 ERA), sophomore Collin Campbell (1-0, 0.00), and senior Logan Holthaus (0-0, 3.86) to the mound as starting pitchers this weekend. Walker and Holthaus will be making their second starts of the season and Campbell his first.

·         Truman State will be playing its first games of the 2014 season. Last season the Bulldogs were 12-34 overall, including 11-32 in MIAA play. Truman was 6-13 in road games last season.

·         Truman returns 11 position players and 10 pitchers that played last season, including four of the top five leading hitters. Junior Paul Trenhaile had the highest single-season batting average for a Bulldog in seven years with a .371 mark and tied for third all-time in single-season hits with 59, four off the Truman record of 63.

·         Harding and Truman State have met only once with the Bisons winning 11-2 on Mar. 4, 1986.
