Harding Falls in Overtime after 18-Point Comeback

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After trailing by as many as 18 points in the second half, Harding sent their make-up game with Henderson State into overtime before falling 91-88 in overtime Monday at the Duke Wells Center.


The game was originally scheduled for last Thursday but was postponed when the scoreboard malfunctioned.


Harding fell to 12-10 overall and 9-7 in the Great American Conference. The Bisons are in fourth place in the conference standings. Henderson State improved to 11-13 overall and 7-9 in conference and are in sixth in the GAC.


Harding trailed 72-54 with 6:06 left in regulation but outscored Henderson State 26-8 the rest of the way. Harding sophomore John Hudson capped the comeback with a 3-pointer from the left wing as the buzzer sounded to tie the game at 80-80.


"Our guys showed great character and guts," Harding head coach Jeff Morgan said. "They are going to fight regardless of the circumstances."


Harding played most of the overtime period with only six players. Weston Jameson fouled out in regulation, and Jacob Gibson fouled out early in the overtime period.


All five Harding starters scored at least 12 points. Hayden Johnson led the Bisons with 21 points. He made 5-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, and 8-of-14 from the free throw line. Will Francis scored 15 points, and Jameson and Blake McNair scored 14. Gibson finished with 12 points.


Charles Wesley scored a career-high 22 points to lead Henderson State.


Harding tied a season high with 15 3-pointers, including four from Jameson. Johnson and Francis made three each.


The Bisons are back in action Thursday against Southern Arkansas in Magnolia. Tip-off at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center is at 7:30 p.m.
