SEARCY – The two teams tied for fourth in the Great American Conference went down to the wire Saturday at the Rhodes Field House with Arkansas-Monticello's Sharif Hudson hitting the game-winning layup with 14 seconds left to give the Boll Weevils a 72-70 victory over Harding.

Harding fell to 12-12 overall and 9-9 in the GAC and dropped to fifth place. The Bisons return to Rhodes on Thursday for Senior Night against Arkansas Tech. Arkansas-Monticello improved to 17-9 and is 10-8 in conference.

The game was tied 10 times in the second half and neither team led by more than five points after halftime. The 10th tie came when Hayden Johnson made a layup with 45 seconds left. Hudson then hit his layup on Arkansas-Monticello's next trip.

Harding turned the ball over with three seconds left, but Arkansas-Monticello threw an errant in-bounds pass with 1.9 seconds remaining that gave Harding the ball back. Harding's 3-pointer at the buzzer was just short.

"It reminded me of two heavyweights chained together in the middle of the ring," Harding head coach Jeff Morgan said. "It was a great college basketball game. They made some awfully tough shots at the end."

Gibson led Harding with 23 points, scoring 21 of them in the first half. He was 7-of-11 from the field and made four 3-pointers. Johnson scored 14 points and Blake McNair added 11.

Brandon Wilson led Arkansas-Monticello with 20 points.
