SEARCY – Harding baseball completed a three-game sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma with 11-1 and 6-0 victories over the Savage Storm on Saturday in Great American Conference action at Jerry Moore Field.
Harding outscored Southeastern 23-1 in the three game series and improved to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in GAC action. The Storm fell to 9-8 overall and 4-5 in conference.
The Bisons are back in action Tuesday, Mar. 4 when they take on Delta State in Cleveland, Miss.
Harding senior James Anderson was 7-for-9 with two runs and five RBI in the doubleheader, and senior Matt Calhoun was 6-for-8 with five runs scored. Anderson has a team-high seven multi-hit games, and Anderson and Calhoun are tied for the team lead with five multi-RBI games.
Game 1
Harding pounded out 14 hits in the opener and scored multiple runs in four different innings. The Bisons led 4-1 after three innings and blew the game open with five runs in the fourth. The game ended after eight innings due to the NCAA's 10-run mercy rule.
Senior Logan Holthaus (2-0) was outstanding on the mound for the Bisons. He allowed only one run on three hits over seven innings. He struck out eight and walked only one.
Anderson went 4-for-5, scored twice and drove in three runs. Calhoun was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Erin McCarver and Noah Chandler both had two hits.
Southeastern starter Jonathan Furlong (0-2) lasted only 2 1/3 innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits in taking the loss.
Game 2
Harding scored three runs in the first inning of game two then added a single run in the fifth and two more in the six. The Bisons had 12 hits in the game and 26 in the doubleheader.
Sophomore Collin Campbell (3-0) remained unbeaten and pitched his first collegiate shutout. He allowed only three hits and no walks and struck out seven.
Anderson and Calhoun again paced the offense. Anderson was 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Calhoun was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Zac Stewart hit his first home run of the season and drove in two, and John Chapman and Trent Wooldridge had two hits each.
Dwight Camp (1-1) took the loss for Southeastern. He allowed three runs (two earned) in 3 1/3 innings.
