DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma shot 60 percent in the second half and weathered a furious late comeback from Harding to defeat the Bisons 83-80 on Saturday in Great American Conference play at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
"Southeastern came out and played loose and got a little separation at the end," Harding head coach Jeff Morgan said. "Our guys made some plays to give us a chance at the end."
Harding concluded the regular season 12-14 overall and 9-11 in GAC play. The Bisons will be the No. 5 seed at the GAC Tournament and will play No. 4 seed East Central on Thursday at 8 p.m. in Bartlesville, Okla.
Southeastern Oklahoma finished the season 9-17 overall and 6-14 in conference games. The Savage Storm could still be the No. 8 seed if Ouachita Baptist loses at Arkansas-Monticello.
Harding connected on 9-of-16 3-pointers in the first half and led 39-36 at halftime. Weston Jameson made 3-of-4 3-pointers including one on Harding's last possession that gave the Bisons' their advantage at the break.
The game turned in the favor of Southeastern in the second half. The Savage Storm made 15-of-25 field goals after halftime, including 7-of-11 from 3-point range. Southeastern also made 10-of-11 free throws in the second half and did not miss from the line in the final three minutes of the game.
Harding had two 3-point shots on its final possession with a chance to tie it, but both shots just missed.
Hayden Johnson led Harding with 24 points, hitting 9-of-18 from the field. Jameson and Blake McNair both scored 14 points, and Jacob Gibson scored 13. Jameson played all 40 minutes and had nine assists and no turnovers.
The Bisons made 15-of-34 3-pointers and broke the single-season school record with 269 3s. Harding set the record last season with 259.
Taylor Smaller made five 3-pointers and led Southeastern with 21 points. Urald King added 20.
