Harding Rally Falls Short as Boll Weevils Sweep Bisons

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello mounted an early six-run lead that Harding could not overcome as the Bisons lost 6-4 to the Boll Weevils on Saturday in Great American Conference action. Harding lost both games Friday and was swept in a conference series for the first time this season.

Harding fell to 16-12 overall and 8-7 in GAC play, while Arkansas-Monticello improved to 21-10 overall and 11-7 in conference.

Arkansas-Monticello scored six runs in the first four innings off Harding starter Logan Holthaus (3-1), who lost for the first time this season. He left with one out in the fifth after yielding 11 hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Harding reliever Andrew Fiddler shut down the Boll Weevils the rest of the way as the Bisons mounted a rally in the sixth. Harding opened the sixth with five straight hits off Arkansas-Monticello starter Austin Braddock. Harrison Hunter, Trent Wooldridge, and Erin McCarver each had RBI singles during that stretch and cut the Boll Weevil lead to 6-3.

Zac McKnight relieved Braddock and retired the first two Harding hitters before Noah Chandler singled to score Woodridge and make the score 6-4.

Harding had two base runners on in each of the last three innings but could not score and left seven runners on in the game, five in the last three innings.

Braddock (1-0) got the win for Arkansas-Monticello, and Jeff Harvill picked up his sixth save.

McCarver, Hunter, and Davis Richardson both had two hits in the game for the Bisons. Ben Agredano and Tyler Caruthers had three hits each for the Boll Weevils.

Harding's next action is a Tuesday non-conference game against Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Ark.
