ADA, Okla. - The Harding men's and women's tennis teams will be in action Saturday at 9 a.m. against East Central.
Harding's women enter the match ranked No. 4 in the NCAA's Central Region Rankings and have won nine straight matches. The Lady Bisons have improved to 13-5 overall and are 5-0 in the Great American Conference. A victory over East Central would give Harding its first regular season conference championship in women's tennis since winning the 1994 Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference championship.
The Lady Bisons are 2-4 all-time against the Lady Tigers, who won both matches last season. East Central, who won the GAC Tournament last year, is 5-14 overall and 2-3 in conference matches.
Harding has two players--
Piper Huey and
Lauren Doversola--riding eight-match singles winning streaks entering the East Central contest. Bernardita Muscillo, a junior from Argentina, plays No. 1 singles for the Lady Tigers.
Harding's men are coming off an 8-1 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Thursday and enter the East Central match 7-7 overall. The Bisons are 0-2 in GAC matches, but a win against the Tigers would create a three-way tie for second place in the four-team conference.
East Central is 7-9 overall and 1-1 in conference matches. The Tigers have been most successful at No. 3 singles, where Julian Caminos has a 10-4 record. East Central's No. 2 doubles has an 8-7 record.
Harding's top singles position is No. 1, where
Mathaus Spiering is 11-2. The Bisons also have a 9-5 record at No. 3 singles. Harding's best doubles record is at No. 2, where the team is 8-6.
Harding and East Central have tied 4-4 in their previous eight meetings.
