ADA, Okla. - The Harding men's tennis team defeated East Central 6-3 on Saturday in the final Great American Conference match of the season. The victory created a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings.
Southeastern Oklahoma finished first in the conference with a 3-0 record. Harding, Ouachita Baptist, and East Central are all tied for second at 1-2. A draw will be held Saturday to determine seeds for the GAC Tournament, which will be held in Bentonville, Ark., on Apr. 18-20.
Harding improved to 8-7 with the victory, its first GAC victory in nine conference matches over the last three seasons. East Central dropped to 7-10 overall.
Harding won two of the three doubles matches, picking up victories at No. 2 and winning a tight 9-7 match at No. 3.
The Bisons then won four of the six singles matches, three of them in straight sets.
Josh Hurt won a super tiebreaker 11-9 in the third set at No. 6 singles.
