Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – Harding sophomore Noah Chandler went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI to lead the Bisons to a 6-3 non-conference baseball victory over Union on Wednesday.
Harding (22-15) returns to Great American Conference play this weekend with a three-game home series against Henderson State. Game one of the series is Friday at 3 p.m.
Harding and Union (12-24) were tied 2-2 after four innings with Chandler driving in both of the Bisons' run. A two-run fifth put the Bisons ahead to stay. Trent Wooldridge led off the inning with a single, and Erin McCarver followed with one of his own. Wooldridge moved to third and McCarver to second on a wild pitch. Matt Calhoun's sacrifice fly scored Wooldridge, and McCarver came in on James Anderson's ground out.
Harding put two more on the board in the eighth to push its lead to four runs. Chandler led off the inning with a single to right and scored one batter later on Davis Richardson's double. Richardson scored Harding's sixth run on Harrison Hunter's single.
It was Chandler's 12th multi-hit game of the season and his fourth game with three hits or more. McCarver and Hunter had two hits each.
Hunter Payne started for Harding on the mound and gave way to Jacob Stripling with one out in the second inning. Stripling (2-3) did not allow a run over 3 1-3 innings to earn the win.
Chaz Wilson (3-3) took the loss for Union. He pitched 5 1-3 innings and allowed six hits and four runs, three of them earned.
The key for Harding was its abiliity to get its leadoff batter on base. Four times the Bisons' leadoff hitter reached, and Harding scored in three of those innings. Union's leadoff man reached only once in the game.
