Chandler Homer, Solid Pitching Lead HU Baseball to Victory at GAC Tournament

Noah Chandler hit his first homer of the season to give the Bisons a 2-1 victory over Southern Arkansas.
Box Score ENID, Okla. - Harding sophomore Noah Chandler hit a solo home run, his first of the season, off the top of the left field wall in the top of the ninth inning to give the Bisons the decisive run in a 2-1 victory against third-seeded Southern Arkansas.

"When I hit, it felt good," said Chandler of the home run. "When I saw the outfielder look up, I knew it had a chance. It hit the top of the wall, and I was just hoping it would keep going. I just put a good swing on a good pitch."

Harding starter Logan Holthaus carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and departed after lasting 6.2 innings. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. Cameron Walker, in his first relief appearance of the season, allowed an inherited run to score, but improved to 4-6 after 2 1-3 innings of relief. He struck out three in the outing.

"We understand that to move on to the regional tournament, we have to win this tournament," Harding head coach Dr. Patrick McGaha said of his pitching strategy. "We weren't looking to win one game. We were looking today for how we can use our pitching staff to win the tournament. We felt like we had to win this game to give ourselves a chance to do that, so if we had to use both (Holthaus and Walker), we had to."

Dylan Lynn took the hard-luck loss for the Muleriders. The 1st Team All-GAC selection suffered just his second loss in 11 decisions. He pitched 8 1-3 innings allowing both runs on six hits. He recorded six strikeouts.

The Bisons will face Arkansas-Monticello in Sunday's winner's bracket game at 7:30 p.m. Southern Arkansas will try and avoid elimination when it faces Ouachita Baptist at 4 p.m.
