Ouachita Baptist Defeats Harding Baseball in Sunday GAC Action

Box Score

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Harding and Ouachita Baptist did everything they could to play their three-game Great American Conference series, including changing venues from a saturated Jerry Moore Field in Searcy to Rab Rodgers Field in Arkadelphia.

A single game scheduled for Saturday was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions and an unplayable Jerry Moore Field. Sunday the teams were able to play the first of two scheduled games in Arkadelphia before poor weather conditions forced the cancelation of the second game.

Ouachita Baptist won the lone game of the series 10-3 and improved to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in the GAC. Harding fell to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in the GAC. The Bisons are scheduled to play a non-conference game against Henderson State on Tuesday, but the weather may again force a change in schedule.

Ouachita scored four runs in the second inning, three coming on a Justin Weigle home run off Harding starter Collin Campbell (2-1), and the Tigers led the rest of the way.

Harding cut the Tiger lead to 4-1 in the third as Jaxon Mohr doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a double play.

Ouachita led 6-1 in the fourth when the Bisons scored again. Davis Richardson led off the inning with a double and scored on Alan Copeland's RBI single to left.

The Tigers tacked on four more runs before Richardson hit his first home run of the season for the game's final margin.

Campbell, who had not allowed a run in 13 2-3 innings to open the season, gave up five earned runs in three innings and struck out five in the loss. Freshman Reed Roberts was the most effective of three Harding relievers, allowing only one unearned run in 2 1-3 innings with three strikeouts.

Richardson led the Harding offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs, a double and a home run. It was Richardson's third career three-hit game and second against Ouachita Baptist. Copeland was 2-for-3.

Ouachita had 16 hits in the game, led by Drew Feuerbacher, who was 4-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. Weigle was 2-for-4 with two runs, a triple and a home run.

Junior Connor Eller (3-0) earned the win for the Tigers, allowing six hits and two earned runs over seven innings.
