ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Harding won a pair of doubles matches and added four singles victories to take a 6-3 victory over Henderson State in Great American Conference women's tennis action.
The victory gave the Lady Bisons a 9-8 overall record and even their conference record at 2-2. Henderson State dropped to 6-8 overall and concluded its GAC schedule with a 2-4 record.
Harding's all-freshman team of
Emily Faulkner and
Brittany Smyser won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles to even its season record to 7-7.
Piper Huey and Sydni Samsom improved to 3-1 in GAC matches with an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
Each of Harding's top four singles players won in straight sets. Huey, the eighth-ranked player in the NCAA Division II Central Region, won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1. It was her team-leading 13th singles victory.
Arielle Butler won easily at No. 2, defeating Sara Griffin 6-1, 6-1. It ws Butler's second victory at No. 2.
Katie Huff won for the second time in GAC action with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 3, and Smyser won 6-0, 6-0 for the second time this season at No. 4.
Harding's match with Southwest Baptist scheduled for Friday has been canceled, so the Lady Bisons' remaining matches are at home against East Central on Saturday and Arkansas Tech on Sunday.
