Harding Women's Tennis Blanks Hendrix for First Win

CONWAY, Ark. - The Harding women's tennis team defeated Hendrix 9-0 on Wednesday to collect its first victory of the season, improving to 1-2 overall.

Harding swept all three doubles matches and all six singles matches without losing a set against the NCAA Division III opponent. The Lady Bisons two losses came against NCAA Division I opponents Lipscomb and Central Arkansas. Harding continues play Thursday against NCAA Division II Delta State and Friday against the No. 10 team in Division II, Southwest Baptist. The matches against Delta State and Southwest Baptist will both be played at the Heflin Tennis Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Hendrix (1-2) lost for the first time. The Warriors had earned road wins against University of the Ozarks and John Brown.

Junior Piper Huey won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles over Julia Lefler, leaving Huey only one win short of 40 singles victories in her career. Laura Golubic earned her first career dual singles victory, winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2.

The closest doubles match came at No. 2, where Harding's Gabriella Alves and Brittany Smyser won 6-4 over Pratheepa Ravikumar and Laela Zaidi.
