Harding Men's Tennis Defeats Lindenwood in Matchup of Regionally-Ranked Teams

SEARCY – Harding recorded its sixth doubles sweep of the season and defeated Lindenwood, the ninth-ranked team in the NCAA Division II Central Region, 7-2 on Monday at the Harding Tennis Courts.

Harding, ranked eighth in the region, improved to 8-4 overall, 4-1 at home and 5-4 in regional matches. It was the Bisons' first win of the season against a regionally-ranked team.

Neto Cacace and Adrian Torrico won 8-0 at No. 2 for their eighth victory in 12 dual doubles matches. Brandon Hogland and Chase Stumne made it 2-0 Harding with an 8-3 win at No. 3, their 10th dual victory and third straight.

At No. 1 doubles, Harding's duo of Carlos Crisostomo and Henrique Vieira trailed 7-5, 40-0 but saved eight straight match points and rallied to win 9-7. They have a team-high 12 doubles victories this season.

Vieira, of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, gave Harding a 4-1 victory with a quick 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Vieria has won four of his last six matches and is 9-7 this season.

Lindenwood, who fell to 4-6 overall, picked up its first point at No. 1 singles, where Filip Bogic won in straight sets.

Cacace, of Sao Paulo, Brazil, clinched the match for Harding at No. 3 singles. His 7-6, 6-3 victory included a between-the-legs, back-to-the-net shot on match point. Cacace's win was his 10th of the season and 20th in his Harding career.

Hogland earned Harding's sixth point with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5. It was the second time this season that Hogland lost the first set and came back to win.

Slobodan Bavrlic of Lindenwood won at No. 6 singles before Harding's Torrico won 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 in a match that lasted 2 hours, 30 minutes at No. 2. Torrico won his second straight and his team-leading 13th singles match of the season.

Harding returns to action Thursday against John Brown, an NAIA opponent in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
