Five Singles Wins Lift Harding Women's Tennis over Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - For the third time this season, the Harding women's tennis team rallied from a doubles deficit to win, defeating Arkansas Tech 6-3 in Great American Conference action on Tuesday at Chartwells Tennis Center.

Harding improved to 13-7 overall and 3-3 in the GAC. The Lady Bisons are tied for third place in the conference standings and clinched a spot in the GAC Tournament. Arkansas Tech, ranked No. 7 in the ITA Central Region Rankings, fell to 9-12 overall and 3-3 in conference. It was Harding's third win over a regionally-ranked opponent this season.

Harding trailed 2-1 after doubles. The Lady Bisons' point came at No. 2 where Arielle Butler and Emily Faulkner won 8-4. It was their team-leading 12th dual doubles victory this season.

Harding's comeback started at No. 3 singles where Gabriella Alves defeated Teresa Sanchez 6-2, 6-3. It was her 11th dual singles win, tying her for the team lead.

Harding took the lead for good at 3-2 with Butler's 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles. It was Butler's 12th win of the season.

Emily Faulkner made it 4-2 Harding with her 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles. It was Faulkner's sixth straight win, and she remained unbeaten at 6-0 in GAC matches.

Laura Golubic's 7-6, 7-6 victory at No. 2 singles clinched the match for Harding, and Piper Huey added the sixth point with a three-set victory at No. 1. Huey, ranked 15th in the Central Region, defeated 12th-ranked Macarena Sedano Acosta. It was Huey's third victory over a regionally-ranked opponent this season.

Harding's next match is scheduled against East Central on Saturday in Ada, Oklahoma. The match could be moved to Friday due to a weather forecast for rain.
