Harding Men's Tennis Upsets No. 38 East Central, 5-4

Adrian Torrico won at No. 2 doubles and No. 2 singles.

ADA, Okla. – Harding men's tennis upset 38th-ranked East Central 5-4 on Friday in Great American Conference action. It was the Bisons' second win over a nationally-ranked team since the ITA Top 50 began in 2003-04. Harding's only other victory over a nationally-ranked team was a 5-4 win over 35th-ranked Southwest Baptist in 2014.

With the victory, Harding improved to 11-6 overall and finished GAC play with a 2-2 record. The Bisons will enter the GAC Tournament on April 21-23 in Bentonville, Arkansas, as the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 2 seed Southeastern Oklahoma.

Harding's victory over East Central can be credited to its doubles play, where the Bisons won all three matches.

Neto Cacace and Adrian Torrico won 8-2 at No. 2. The duo is 14-8 overall and 11-6 in dual matches. Harding's No. 1 team of Carlos Crisostomo and Henrique Vieira won 8-4 and are 12-5 in dual matches. Brandon Hogland and Chase Stumne closed out the doubles with a 9-7 victory, their 13th overall and 12th dual win.

Harding won two key doubles matches to reach five points. Torrico won easily 6-1, 6-0 over Alex Fillat, the No. 7-ranked singles player in the Central Region.

Stumne clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 6. He became the only Harding player to win three of his four GAC singles matches.
