Harding Women's Tennis Seventh in Regional Rankings, Opens GAC Tournament Thursday

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Harding women's tennis team, who remained in the NCAA Division II Central Region Rankings at No. 7 on Wednesday, will open the Great American Conference Tournament against Henderson State on Thursday.

The regional rankings will be released for the final time next Wednesday, following the GAC Tournament. The conference tournament champions from the Great American Conference, the MIAA and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference earn automatic bids into the regional tournament. The three tournament winners will be joined by the next four highest-ranked teams.

Harding has a 13-8 overall record. The Lady Bisons are now 10-6 in Division II regional matches used by the committee to determine the rankings.

The announcement of the NCAA Tournament selection will be on May 3.

The top two teams in the final rankings will host the regional. The No. 1 seed will host the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds. The No. 2 seed will host the No. 3, No. 6 and No. 7 seeds. The two regional tournament winners will advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships on May 18-21 in Denver, Colorado.

Harding's women have reached the regional tournament eight times since 2001.

Harding's postseason begins Thursday at 10:30 a.m. against Henderson State at the Memorial Park Tennis Complex in Bentonville, Arkansas. The Lady Bisons and Reddies will be meeting for the third time this season. Each team won 5-4 on the other team's courts.

The winner of the Harding/Henderson State match will play No. 1 seed Southeastern Oklahoma on Friday at 2 p.m.
