Faulkner Victory Completes Harding Women's Tennis Comeback over UAFS

SEARCY – Junior Emily Faulkner's three-set victory at No. 6 singles completed Harding's 5-4 come-from-behind victory Saturday over UAFS at the Harding Tennis Courts.

Harding improved to 4-1 with the victory, dropping UAFS over the Division II Heartland Conference, to 1-5.

Harding found itself down 3-0 after doubles but rallied to win five of the six singles matches and earn the victory.

Brittany Smyser lost only one game in winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4. Gabriella Alves earned Harding's second point with a quick 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3.

UAFS took a 4-2 lead with a straight-sets victory at No. 5, but Harding's comeback continued with Piper Huey's 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 1.

The match came down to two three-set matches. Harding's Laura Golubic evened the match at 4-4 with a 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 win at No. 2, and Faulkner sealed the victory with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.

Harding's last victory when losing all three doubles matches came against Southeast Missouri in 2010 and was played under the Division I scoring system that counts doubles as only one point. Harding rallied to win four singles contests and take the match 4-3.

Harding will be in Springfield, Missouri, next weekend to take on Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Drury on Sunday at noon.
