Harding Women's Tennis Sweeps Singles to Defeat UAFS, 7-2

Piper Huey won her 65th singles match Wednesday, 10th in program history.

FORT SMITH, Ark. – Harding women's tennis won only one doubles match but had no trouble once singles started Wednesday in a 7-2 victory over UAFS at the Fort Smith Athletic Club.

Harding won for the fifth time in its last six matches and for the ninth time in its last 11. The Lady Bisons improved to 13-5 overall. UAFS fell to 4-13. Harding won the first meeting between the teams 5-4 on Feb. 25 in Searcy.

Harding's lone singles win came at No. 1, where Laura Golubic and Piper Huey continue to roll. The duo has won 11 straight matches and is 19-4 this season. They have won 14 times in 17 matches at No. 1, tied for the eighth-most No. 1 doubles wins in a Harding single-season.

Harding lost three games or fewer in five of the six singles matches. Huey won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 over Lea Cizeron. It was the 65th career victory for Huey, moving her into Harding's career top 10. Huey is 17-6 overall and 13-4 at No. 1 singles.

Golubic won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 to extend her team-best five-match winning streak. She is 13-7 overall and 11-3 at No. singles.

Gabriella Alves won her third straight and ninth in her last 10 matches with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3.

Brittany Smyser won for the third time in her last five matches, defeating Shaun Williams 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4.

???????Arielle Butler won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5, her team-best 18th singles victory of the season and 12th in 17 dual matches, and Milou Dalmolen won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6, her third dual win in four matches this season.

Harding, ranked No. 7 in the NCAA Division II Central Region Rankings, looks to continue its push for an NCAA Tournament berth with two more regular season matches, both at home and both Great American Conference contests. Harding hosts Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Arkansas Tech on Monday at 1 p.m.
