Harding Women's Tennis Comes From Behind to Defeat UAFS

FORT SMITH, Ark. – After a 16-day layoff, the Harding women's tennis team posted a 5-4 come-from-behind victory in nonconference action Monday against Arkansas-Fort Smith.

Harding (5-2) trailed 2-1 after doubles. The Lady Bisons earned a point at No. 1, where Laura Golubic and Arisa Takanashi won 8-6. The ninth-ranked doubles team in the Central Region improved to 5-2 in dual matches and 7-6 overall with the victory.

With only one win in doubles, Harding needed to win at least four of the six singles matches.

Takanashi quickly evened the score for the Lady Bisons at 2-2 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3. The win was the seventh straight for Takanashi, who is 8-2 this season in singles matches.
Hana Folse put Harding ahead 3-2 with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Folse improved to 8-5 in singles matches.

Arkansas-Fort Smith (3-2) tied it back up with a win at No. 1, but Harding's Laura Golubic won 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 at No. 2 to give Harding a 4-3 lead. It was the 30th career singles victory for Golubic, who is now 3-2 at No. 2 singles this season.

Paulina Kostka clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5. Kostka is now 5-2 in her first season at Harding.

Harding is back in action Saturday and Sunday in Memphis, Tennessee. The Lady Bisons will play DePauw, Bethel and Rhodes.
