Harding Baseball Shuts Out Truman in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEARCY – Five Harding pitchers combined to pitch 14 scoreless innings, and the Bisons batted around in the third inning of both games in a doubleheader sweep of Truman State on Saturday at Jerry Moore Field.

Harding swept the four-game series and improved to 4-3 overall. The Bisons will open Great American Conference play next weekend at home against Arkansas-Monticello. Truman, a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference and playing its first games of the season, dropped to 0-4.

Game 1
Ahead 1-0 after two innings, Harding sent 11 hitters to the plate in the third and scored six runs. Harding had five hits in the inning, including a two-run Brenden Perrett double.

Harding made it 9-0 in the sixth on a Tyler Mohr's two-run double. An unearned run in the seventh ended the game early due to the NCAA's 10-run rule.

Logan McCall (1-0) was outstanding on the mound, allowing only two hits and no runs in 6.0 innings with five strikeouts. Brian Tims pitched a perfect seventh.

Nolan Fertig led the 12-hit Harding attack, going 3-for-5 with a run scored. Mohr, Perrett and Connor Kelly each had two hits, and Mohr drove in three.

Game 2
The third inning proved large for Harding again in game two. Harding sent nine hitters to the plate and scored three runs on four hits. Van Dover drove in two runs with a double in the inning.

Harding scored without a hit in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth on four hits, including a Kelly RBI double.

Freshman Kaden Kirby (1-0) made his first collegiate start and allowed only two hits and no runs over 5.0 innings. Ty Hoecker and Dylan Adcock pitched scoreless innings of relief.

Harding had 10 hits from nine different players. Kelly was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
