The Harding women's tennis team traveled to Edmond, Oklahoma this weekend to participate in the ITA Central Regional Championships. The Lady Bisons had eight players compete in both the singles and doubles competitions.
Four Lady Bisons were entered in the Singles Main Draw A.
Grace Dodd won her first two matches in straight sets to move to the Round of 16. Dodd then fell to Tizia Brocks of Central Oklahoma 6-2, 7-5.
Emily Carpenter and
Romane Britt both won their opening round matches before falling in the second round.
Four more Lady Bisons competed in the Singles Main Draw B.
Lindy Carpenter won her first three matches to reach the semifinals. Carpenter won all three matches in straight sets and did not lose more than three games in any of those six sets.
Rachel McCrae also won three matches before falling in the Quarterfinals. McCrae also did not drop a set in any of her three match wins.
Jing Jing Yang also reached the quarterfinals after two wins. Yang fell to Claudia Iglesias in a tight three set match 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5).
In doubles action, Harding had two teams each in the Main Draw A and Main Draw B. In Main Draw A,
Romane Britt and
Grace Dodd teamed up to win their opening round match over Kinsey Fields and Marta Torres from Washburn, 8-2. In Main Draw B, both teams of McCrae and
Ashley Nilsson, and
Emily Carpenter and Yang fell in the opening round, but advanced to the semifinals of the consolation bracket.
The Lady Bisons will return to action next weekend October 8-10 at the Rumble by the River hosted by Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in the final tournament of the fall.
