Harding's Sarmiento Ruiz Earns Conference Honor

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Harding's Sofia Sarmiento Ruiz has been named the Great American Conference women's tennis player of the week.

Sarmiento Ruiz, a sophomore from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Mexico, won two singles and two doubles matches as the Lady Bisons defeated Drury and Southwest Baptist.

In the match against Drury, Sarmiento Ruiz teamed with Madison Stafford to win 7-6 (7-5) at No. 2 doubles. She also won her singles match when her opponent retired.

Against Southwest Baptist, Sarmiento Ruiz and Stafford won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Sarmiento Ruiz won her singles match in three sets.

The conference honor is selected by a three-person committee.
