Long Dominates on Mound, Earns GAC and NCBWA Honors

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Harding University's Maddox Long has been named the Great American Conference Pitcher of the Week and the Central Region Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Long, a graduate student from Morrilton, Arkansas, struck out 10 in the Bisons' 6-1 win against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday. He allowed just three hits and a walk in 8.0 innings, improving to 3-0 on the season.

This marks Long's third straight start with just one earned run allowed and one walk or less. It's also the second consecutive week a Harding pitcher has earned the GAC honor, following Preston Tabor's award last week.

The award is Long's third career Pitcher of the Week honor, a feat achieved by only two other Harding pitchers: Justin Phillips (four times in 2006-07) and Lucas Waddell (three times from 2010-12).
