Harding's Zarate Valdez Named GAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Harding University's Alexia Zarate Valdez has been named the Great American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

A sophomore from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Zarate Valdez earned the honor after collecting a pair of singles wins, improving her spring singles record to 3-2. She is currently ranked No. 14 in the ITA singles rankings.

Zarate Valdez's wins came against Hannah Yip of Midwestern State and Nefeli Zafeiri of Central Oklahoma. She rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Yip and secured a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win against Zafeiri. Her strong performance earned her the weekly conference honor.

The Harding women's tennis team will be back in action this weekend, facing a challenging slate of matches in Tyler, Texas. The Lady Bisons will take on Texas-Permian Basin, UT Tyler, and Lubbock Christian from Saturday to Monday.
