CLINTON, Miss. – Facing its second top-10 opponent in three days, the Harding women's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 6 Mississippi College on Thursday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex.
The Choctaws (17-0) remained undefeated on the season, showcasing the depth that has them positioned as one of the elite programs in NCAA Division II.
Doubles Play
Mississippi College jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point, though the Lady Bisons found success at the bottom of the lineup. At No. 3 doubles, Ece Boylu and Sofia Sarmiento Ruiz earned a 6-3 victory over Katharina Weber and Molly Bennett. It was only the third time the duo has paired together this season, moving their record as a team to 2-1.
However, the Choctaws secured the point with wins on the top two courts. At the No. 1 spot, MC's No. 4-ranked duo of Emily Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett defeated Harding's No. 5-ranked pair of Karli Roux and Brooke Coffman, 6-2. The Choctaws also took the No. 2 flight, 6-0.
Singles Results
The Choctaws carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets.
The premier matchup of the day took place at No. 1 singles, where Harding's No. 39-ranked Karli Roux faced No. 4-ranked Emily Buchanan. Buchanan managed to hold off the Harding senior, winning 6-3, 6-1.
The Lady Bisons (3-9) battled at the No. 4 position, where Brooke Coffman pushed Anna Hudson in the first set before falling 6-4, 6-2. Elsewhere, Sofia Sarmiento Ruiz dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 6, while Ece Boylu (No. 2), Natalia Alvarez (No. 3), and Mia Hosking (No. 5) all fell by scores of 6-1, 6-1.
