SEARCY — The Harding women's outdoor track and field team had a busy and productive weekend, recording several strong performances and achieving four NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks at two different meets across the state. The Lady Bisons competed Friday at the prestigious John McDonnell Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas before sending another contingent to the Arkansas State Alumni Classic in Jonesboro on Saturday.
The John McDonnell Invitational saw several standout performances for Harding, highlighted by four NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks. Freshman Tetiana Kharashchuk ran an impressive season-best time of 53.27 seconds in the 400 meters, earning a provisional mark and finishing eighth overall. Kharashchuk's time has her in the top 10 in Division II and puts her in position for an invitational to nationals.
Junior Lisa Retailleau also achieved a provisional qualification in the 400-meter hurdles, placing second with a season-best time of 1:00.23. Her time ranks 13th nationally and also lands her in the mix for the national meet.
In the field events in Fayetteville, junior Cadence Sansom cleared a season-best 3.86 meters (12 feet, 8 inches) in the pole vault, securing a provisional mark and finishing 11th. She ranks 24th nationally and is on the cusp of a nationals bid. Sophomore Hanna Onufriieva rounded out the provisional qualifiers with a strong performance in the triple jump, finishing second with a season-best mark of 12.39 meters (40 feet, 7.75 inches). She is ninth in Division II and in strong contention for a nationals berth.
Also at the McDonnell Invitational, freshman Jerlana Williams placed 11th in the 100 meters in 12.01 seconds and placed 23rd in the 200 meters (24.67). Sophomore Leila Ngapout finished 19th in the 100 meters (12.17) and 35th in the 200 meters (24.96). The Harding 4x100-meter relay team of Kharashchuk, Ngapout, Kewes Gomes, and Williams finished eighth in 46.88 seconds. Freshman Carly Tucker leaped 5.67 meters (18 feet, 7.25 inches) in the long jump (12th).
The momentum continued Saturday at the Arkansas State Alumni Classic. Freshman Kewes Gomes had a strong showing, finishing sixth in the 100 meters (12.33) and third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.01). Freshman Kiera Bartlett was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.65), and sophomore Ally Cheek finished seventh (15.95).
Senior Kiera Blankinship cleared 1.66 meters (5 feet, 5.25 inches) to finish second in the high jump, with Cheek placing sixth (1.61 meters/5 feet, 3.25 inches). Junior Jaclyn Weilnau had solid distance performances, finishing sixth in the 1500 meters (5:23.25) and ninth in the 800 meters (2:40.20). Freshman Sadie Hutchinson was ninth in the 800 meters (2:27.14).
In the throwing events in Jonesboro, sophomore Carley Hall placed sixth in the shot put (12.06 meters/39 feet, 7 inches) and sixth in the discus (35.96 meters/118 feet). Freshman Kodi Belle DuBose finished fifth in the discus (36.34 meters/119 feet, 3 inches) and sixth in the hammer throw (32.82 meters/107 feet, 8 inches), while freshman Adelaide Goss was fifth in the hammer (35.19 meters/115 feet, 5 inches). Sophomore Audri Aaron placed fourth in the javelin (25.22 meters/82 feet, 9 inches), and senior Hazel Jackson cleared 3.17 meters (10 feet, 4.75 inches) in the pole vault (seventh). Junior Emily Patterson finished seventh in the long jump (5.14 meters/16 feet, 10.5 inches).
Harding's next action is at the Great American Conference Championships beginning Wednesday in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
