SEARCY, Ark. – The Harding Bisons maintained their position as the No. 2 ranked team in NCAA Division II football, according to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coaches Poll released Monday, September 29.
Harding (4-0) received 744 points in the Week 5 poll, firmly holding the second spot behind only top-ranked Ferris State (4-0, 775 points). The Bisons solidified their ranking following a 24-7 victory over rival Ouachita Baptist this past Saturday. Harding appeared in its 82nd consecutive poll. National Statistical Dominance
Offensively, Harding continues its reputation as a running powerhouse, leading all NCAA Division II teams in Rushing Offense with 419.8 yards per game. This run game success translates to high marks in efficiency, as the Bisons are ranked first nationally in 4th Down Conversion Pct (1.000). Individually, running back Braden Jay leads the nation in Rushing Touchdowns with six, while running back Andrew Miller leads the GAC in Rushing Yards Per Game (108.8).
Defensively, the Bisons have been equally formidable, holding the top spot nationally in two key categories:
The defense is also ranks third nationally in Total Defense (224.8 yards per game) and third in 3rd Down Conversion Pct Defense (0.356). Linebacker Clark Griffin is a key contributor, leading the GAC and ranking 23rd nationally in Total Tackles (9.8 per game).
