CONWAY, Ark. – The Harding women's track and field team opened the 2026 outdoor season in dominant fashion this weekend, capturing five individual event titles at the Hendrix College Open.
Despite shifting focus toward the upcoming indoor national championships for several team members, the Lady Bisons displayed significant depth across the sprints, distance, and field events in their first outdoor competition of the spring.
Throws Group Leads the Way
Freshman Erika Konovalenko provided the highlight of the weekend in the javelin. Konovalenko uncorked a massive toss of 45.67m (149-10) (+) on her final attempt to secure first place. The mark comfortably surpassed the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard and immediately places her among the top javelin throwers in the nation.
Fellow freshman Yedidya Bangue continued her strong run of form, winning the shot put with a mark of 14.31m (46-11.50). Bangue also added a runner-up finish in the discus with a toss of 40.16m (131-09). Hannah Omosigho led the way in the hammer throw for Harding, placing second with a mark of 35.21m (115-06). Konovalenko's javelin throw and Bangue's shot put toss were both facilty records.
Success on the Track
Harding swept the middle-distance events, led by Leila Ngapout and Sharon Strydom. Ngapout captured the 400-meter dash title in 58.28, leading a 1-2 Harding finish with teammate Carabeth Hill (59.23).
In the 800-meter run, Sharon Strydom took first place with a time of 2:20.38, while senior Letlhogonolo Magoro placed third in 2:22.48. Sophomore Emily Driskill also turned in a top-10 performance in the 1,500 meters, finishing ninth in 4:59.45.
Vertical Jumps Sweep
Senior Mariia Yashchenko enjoyed a perfect weekend in the vertical jumps, claiming two event titles. Yashchenko won the pole vault by clearing 3.35m (10-11.75) and added a victory in the high jump with a clearance of 1.58m (5-02.25). In the pole vault, Harding occupied the top three spots, with Eliza Dye (3.20m) and Ariadna Flores-Isturiz (3.05m) following Yashchenko.
Multi-Event Standouts
Sophomore Carly Tucker, the indoor long jump school record holder, showed her versatility by placing second in the long jump (5.59m / 18-04.25) and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.90). Kiera Bartlett also had a busy weekend, placing third in the javelin (36.08m), fourth in the long jump (5.51m), and sixth in the hurdles (16.19).

While part of the squad will continue the outdoor season, Harding's nationally-ranked indoor qualifiers will prepare for the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships. The official field for the indoor championships will be announced this Tuesday, March 3, at 5 p.m. CT.
