RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Following a dominant performance in the high jump at the Ouachita Baptist Invitational, Harding junior Ally Cheek has been named the Great American Conference Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Cheek, a native of Sachse, Texas, captured the individual title in Arkadelphia with an NCAA provisional height of 1.68m (5-06.00). The mark represents a new personal best for the junior and currently ranks second in all of NCAA Division II.
Her victory was defined by remarkable efficiency. Cheek was perfect through her first five heights, clearing every bar without a single foul. After a successful second attempt at 1.65 meters, she secured the event win by clearing the 1.68m mark on her very first try.
This is the first GAC weekly honor of the outdoor season for Cheek, who helped lead a Lady Bison squad that split its roster this past weekend to secure multiple event titles.
Harding sophomore Ky Burrell was also among the nominees for GAC Track Athlete of the Week after her performance in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints at the same meet.
The Lady Bisons will be back in action this weekend with athletes competing at both the Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, Mississippi, and the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.
