NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Senior Cadence Sansom delivered a clutch, season-best performance on the final day of the indoor regular season, highlighting a successful outing for the Lady Bisons at the Christopher Newport Qualifier on Sunday.
Sansom, competing in her final indoor regular-season meet, captured the pole vault title with a clearance of 3.98m (13-00.75). The mark is a new season high, surpassing her previous best of 3.90m set at the Music City Challenge. More importantly, the performance vaulted Sansom up to No. 13 on the NCAA Division II national performance list.
With the top 20 athletes typically receiving invitations to the national meet, Sansom has likely secured her spot at the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in Virginia Beach.
Senior Karyna Vehner also earned an event victory for Harding, taking first place in the triple jump with a leap of 11.86m (38-11.00). While Vehner was unable to improve upon her season-best mark of 12.07m, she currently sits at No. 27 in the national rankings, keeping her in the conversation as the selection committee finalizes the championship field.
