Henderson State Outlasts Harding in GAC Semifinal Thriller

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – No. 3 seed Harding's postseason run came to a heartbreaking end Saturday morning as the Lady Bisons fell 4-3 to No. 2 seed Henderson State in the semifinals of the Great American Conference Tournament at Memorial Park.

The match came down to the final court at No. 3 singles, where Henderson State's Adiya Abdugappar outlasted Harding's Ece Boylu in a grueling three-set battle, winning 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) to clinch the dual for the Reddies.

Henderson State took an early lead by sweeping the contested doubles matches. Jenna Bohnert and Adiya Abdugappar took a 6-2 win over Ece Boylu and Sofia Sarmiento Ruiz at No. 2, while Kristina Kozlova and Angela Dorado secured the point with a 6-3 victory over Mia Hosking and Paula Rega at No. 3.

Despite the early deficit, Harding fought back in singles play with three victories. Newly crowned GAC Player of the Year Karli Roux capped her legendary career with a signature comeback at the top flight. Roux dropped the opening set but rallied to defeat Kristina Kozlova 1-6, 7-6, 6-3.

The victory was the 72nd singles win of Roux's career, moving her into a tie with Karina Gomes (2004-08) and Alicia Rojas (1992-96) for the third-most singles wins in Harding program history.

The Lady Bisons also received points from Natalia Alvarez, who won a three-set thriller 6-4, 7-6, 7-5 at No. 4, and Sofia Sarmiento Ruiz, who battled back for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 6 position.

However, Henderson State proved too strong at the remaining flights. Emilia Nowak defeated Brooke Coffman 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2, and Jordan Parker topped Mia Hosking 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 to help set the stage for Abdugappar's match-clinching tiebreaker.

Harding finishes the season with a 7-13 record and a 3-2 mark in GAC play.
