Lady Bison Basketball Falls to Missouri-Kansas City 88-73

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Harding women's basketball team battled with the Missouri-Kansas City early in the first half but fell to the Kangaroos 88-73 on Monday night in their second exhibition game before the start of the regular season.

The Lady Bisons went on an 11-2 run midway through the first half to tie the game at 26 with 5:58 remaining in the first half. UMKC, a NCAA Division I member of The Summit League Conference, forced six Harding turnovers in the remaining minutes and went on a 14-1 run to take a 45-34 lead into halftime.

Harding rallied in the opening minutes of the second half cutting the Kangaroos lead to six. Missouri-Kansas City took over the game and led by as much as 22 until a late rally by the Lady Bisons. The Kangaroos held off Harding in the final minutes as Missouri-Kansas City made 5-of-6 from the free throw line to seal the victory.

Harding outshot Missouri-Kansas City in the game. The Lady Bisons were 24-of-47 from the field (51.1 percent) and 7-of-13 from behind the 3-point line (53.8 percent). The Kangaroos were 29-of-66 from the field (43.9 percent) and 9-of-26 behind the arc (34.6 percent).

Harding had three players in double-figure scoring led by senior forward Kallie Bartee with 12 points. Freshman forward Arielle Saunders hit 4-of-8 from the field and finished with 10 points. Senior guard Sierra Rollins captured a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Missouri-Kansas City was led by Dayon Hall-Jones who went 8-of-12 from the free throw line and finished with 17 points.

Rollins led the HU defense with a game-high three blocks.

Harding will play their final exhibition game before the start of the regular season on Saturday as they travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face Lipscomb at 5 p.m.
