SEARCY – The Harding women's basketball team travels to the upper west corner of the United States this weekend as they take part in the Sodexo Classic hosted by Seattle Pacific. The Lady Bisons will face Central Washington at 3 p.m., on Friday and then Seattle Pacific at 7 p.m., on Saturday. It's the first time Harding has participated in the classic.
The Lady Bisons have started the season with wins over Missouri Southern State and Christian Brothers. It's the second straight season Harding has started 2-0.
Harding is led by senior guard Sierra Rollins who averages 11.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. The Lady Bisons are shooting 45.7 percent from the field and 28.9 percent from behind the 3-point line.
On Friday, Harding takes on Central Washington for the first time. The Wildcats (Ellensburg, Wash.) are a NCAA Division II member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. CWU returns eight players from last years squad including three starters. Central Washington went 7-18 last season and finished ninth in the GNAC with a 2-16 record. It will be their first game of the season on Friday. In their only exhibition game this season, the Wildcats fell to Portland State 69-85. CWU had four players finish in double-figure scoring and were led by Sophie Russell who had 17 points including three 3-pointers.
On Saturday, Harding will also face the host team Seattle Pacific for the first time. The Falcons are also a NCAA Division II member of the GNAC. SPU returns 11 players from last years squad including three starters. The Falcons were 20-9 last season including a 13-5 third place finish in the GNAC. Seattle Pacific heads into the weekend with a 1-1 record after falling to UC-San Diego 47-68 and defeating San Francisco State 56-37 this past weekend. The Falcons have three players that are averaging double-figure scoring; leading the way is Katie Benson who averages 13.5 points.
