SEATTLE, Wash. – Despite senior guard Sierra Rollins scoring a season-high 25 points, the Harding women's basketball team fell to Seattle Pacific 66-89 on Saturday in the Sodexo Classic. The Lady Bisons fall to 2-2 on the season.
Rollins made 11-of-18 from the field, grabbed nine rebounds and had four steals for Harding. Five of her nine rebounds came on the offensive end.
Seattle Pacific made 12 3-pointers in the game. It's the most the Lady Bisons have given up all season. The Falcons, the host team for the classic, also made 34-of-58 field goals (58.6 percent) and were a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
The Lady Bisons kept it close in the first seven minutes of the game until SPU hit a 3-pointer to go ahead 19-11. Harding quickly answered back to pull within two on a Kristen Celsor lay-up with 12:14 left in the first half. The Falcons then went on a 7-2 run to give them a 26-19 advantage. Seattle Pacific held onto their lead and led by as much has 10 in the final ten minutes before halftime. Harding pulled within five when Rollins put back a missed shot with one second remaining as the Falcons took a 43-38 lead into the locker room.
The second half was all Seattle Pacific. Harding tried to rally early in the half but Seattle Pacific went on a 9-0 run with 14:35 remaining to go ahead 59-46. The Lady Bisons couldn't get any closer to the Falcons than nine the rest of the way as SPU kept building on their lead. Seattle Pacific put the game out of reach on a 10-0 run with 3:58 left in the game. SPU then hit three straight 3-pointers in the closing minutes to seal the victory.
The Falcons (3-1) were led by Katie Benson who had 23 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Harding went to the line seven times in the game, making six. It was the fewest number of free throws the Lady Bisons have shot all season.
Harding will have the rest of the Thanksgiving break off before hosting Central Baptist on Nov. 28 at 5:30 p.m.
