Park It: HU Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 to John Brown

Ian Park scored his first goal of the season in the 72nd minute for the Bisons.
Box Score SEARCY - Harding sophomore forward Ian Park scored in the 72nd minute, but the Bisons could not find the equalizer in a 2-1 loss to John Brown at the Harding Soccer Field on Monday.

Harding fell to 1-1-0 on the season, while John Brown remained perfect at 3-0-0. The Bisons won their season opener 2-1 over Williams Baptist on Thursday, and could have started 2-0 for the first time in program history.

“We need to work on our end product and our finishing,” Harding head coach Odie Guzman said.

Trailing 2-0, freshman forward Adam Borsheim slid a pass from the left edge of the 18-yard box in toward Park, who toe-poked the ball inside the left post and past John Brown goalkeeper Pablo Garcia.

John Brown freshman forward Zari Prescod scored the Eagles' first goal in the 20th minute on a shot from the top of the box and slid a pass into Daniel Forry, who made it 2-0 with a goal in the 29th minute.

Prescod eluded two Harding defenders and fired the first goal into the top, right corner from 20 yards out. Prescod the slid a through ball to Forry nine minutes later that Forry chipped over the on-rushing Harding goalkeeper Chase Keeney for the second goal.

“We just needed to regroup after that first half,” Guzman said. “I just needed to tell our defense to make sure that we keep our shape.”

Harding outshot John Brown 10-2 in the second half, and nearly tied the game less than five minutes after picking up the first goal. Park's cross from the left side required Borsheim make a diving attempt to get a shot off. Borsheim did reach the ball, but his shot sailed just over the crossbar.

“Adam (Borsheim) does a good job of finding those lanes to get into,” Guzman said. “And Ian (Park) is just a worker.”

Twice in the game, John Brown's defenders cleared shots off the goal line on clear goal-scoring opportunities for Harding.

With 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Harding defender Rhon Royer headed a corner kick inside the left post, where John Brown defender Dave Castagne cleared it off the line. Then just over two minutes into the second half, Borsheim slid a shot under Garcia that Dakota Dresbach slid in to knock away.

Harding returns to action Friday at home against Ouachita Baptist with a 5 p.m. start.
