HONOLULU – The 12th-ranked Harding women's basketball team used stifling defense and big runs on either side of halftime to earn an 85-49 victory over Notre Dame College on Tuesday at the Oahu Classic.
Harding remained unbeaten at 9-0 and plays Lake Superior State on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Hawaii Time. Notre Dame College fell to 5-2 and plays Lake Superior State on Thursday.
After snapping a 7-0 Notre Dame College run, Harding closed the first half with 10 straight points and led 33-19 at halftime. The Lady Bisons opened the second half on an 11-2 run to push their lead to 44-21 with 14:09 left, putting the game out of reach.
Harding shot 58 percent in the second half and made 9-of-14 3-pointers. The Lady Bisons had 11 different players score and led by as many as 38 points.
Notre Dame College shot only 30 percent for the game, including 2-of-15 (13 percent) from 3-point range.
Junior Shana Holmes shot 8-of-13 from the field and led all players with 19 points. Senior Kristen Celsor scored 17 points, junior Arielle Saunders had 11 points, and 10 rebounds, and junior Tabitha Haney made four 3-pointers and scored 12 points.
Erin Entinghe led Notre Dame College with 11 points. Martha Nagbe, who came into the game averaging 21.3 points, scored 10 on 2-of-11 shooting from the field.
Notre Dame College is located in South Euclid, Ohio, and is in its second season as an NCAA Division II school. The Falcons play in the Mountain East Conference.
