Harding Softball Splits in GAC Series Opener

SEARCY – The Harding softball team won its first Great American Conference game defeating Southern Nazarene 4-2 before falling to the Crimson Storm in game two 8-4. The Lady Bisons move to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in GAC action.

Southern Nazarene moves to 7-4 on the season and 1-1 in the GAC.

It was Harding's first games in Searcy as members of the NCAA.

Game One

Harding got on the board first in second inning, scoring a run. The Lady Bisons then scored two in the third when Mackenzie Jones walked with bases loaded and Marley Edwards hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Amanda Berdon.

Southern Nazarene pulled within one as they scored two in the top of the fourth inning on three hits and two Harding errors. The Lady Bisons got an insurance run in the bottom of the inning when Kimmy Hendricks singled through the left side to score Jessica Greene from third.

Southern Nazarene had a lead-off single in the top of seventh. Harding got the next three batters out to get the win.

Jessica Greene and Kinsey Beck both had two hits in the game.

Amanda Rollins got the win for Harding (2-1), pitching all seven innings and striking out a season-high 11 batters. Kayla Wyatt got the loss for Southern Nazarene (3-3).

Game Two

Harding took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Carolyn Clayton hit her first career homerun to left center.

Southern Nazarene answered back in the top of the third scoring two runs on three hits.

The Crimson Storm increased its lead in the top of the fifth scoring five runs on five hits. Andee Frazier hit a three-run homerun in the inning for Southern Nazarene.

Harding battled back to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth on six hits but Southern Nazarene got out of the inning leaving three Lady Bison runners on.

Courtney Derrick, Amanda Berdon and Carolyn Clayton all had two hits for Harding in the game.

Andee Frazier got the win for Southern Nazarene (3-2) and Danielle Hubbard (4-2) got the loss for Harding.

The two teams will wrap up the series on Saturday in a doubleheader that starts at 12 p.m.
